2002

#1 Best New Course in Texas in 2003 (Avid Golfer Texas Magazine)

#1 Best Public Course in San Antonio from 2006-2009 (San Antonio Express News annual poll)

Opened in 2002, The Republic has consistently been rated one of the top golf courses in San Antonio despite being on the opposite side of town from where the active development and growth has been occurring. The core, standalone golf course is located entirely in a flood plain along Salado Creek. As a result, there were very specific hydrology requirements that had to be met to ensure that the downstream properties were not adversely impacted with flood waters. As a result, Art came up with a creative design and shaping solution for the course that enabled the golf course to effectively mitigate flood waters while disguising the engineering aspects within the creative shaping of the individual golf holes. The holes have a natural-look while also serving a dual purpose of providing flood-control. The golf course consists of wide fairways, large, undulating greens and strategic bunkering. There are distinct risk/reward options for golfers to discover and consider throughout the round.
